Sergio de la Barrera is an Assistant Professor of Physics at the University of Toronto and a member of the Centre for Quantum Information and Quantum Control. He completed his PhD at Carnegie Mellon University in 2016, during which he investigated surface states and structures of two-dimensional electron systems such as graphene. He followed this with postdoctoral fellowships at Carnegie Mellon University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he began investigations of superconductivity and topological phenomena in two-dimensional quantum materials systems. His research at the University of Toronto focuses on the discovery and exploration of emergent phenomena in low-dimensional electron systems and their potential applications in future quantum technologies.
