Speaker Bio
Stefania Sciara received her BS (2014) in Physical Sciences, her MS (2015) in Theoretical Physics from the University of Palermo (Italy), and her PhD (2020) from the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS, Canada), where she was first postdoctoral fellow and then research associate from 2020 to 2025. Her PhD thesis and work on the investigation and characterization of complex photonic entanglement was recognized by the best INRS thesis, INRS Executive Chief Office’s Award of Excellence, and Governor General’s Gold Academic Medal awards. Stefania was recipient of a Mitacs Elevate Fellowship Thematic in Quantum Science and of the Prix Lumières INRS Firestarter. Stefania has developed theoretical and experimental skills in quantum optics and photonics, in particular on the use of time and frequency entangled photon states for proof-of-concept demonstrations of measurement-based quantum processing and entanglement-based quantum key distribution. Since September 2025, Stefania has been holding a position as Assistant Professor in the field of quantum photonics at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS, Montréal, Canada). She is also member of the Centre d’optique, photonique et laser (COPL). Her current research interests and foreseen activities cover entanglement distribution of complex entangled photon states, along with their interface with spin-based quantum memory platforms to enable quantum repeater architectures and quantum communication protocols such as quantum state teleportation.
