Kevin Thomson completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2004 and a post-doctorate at the Université de Lille, France in 2006. He then joined the National Research Council as a research officer in spectroscopic diagnostics for air pollution measurement. In 2014 he joined the Metrology Research Center management team as program leader for Measurement Science for Emerging Technologies. In 2019 Kevin became the Program Director for the Artificial Intelligence for Design challenge program, bringing together NRC, university and SME researchers to collaboratively develop AI methods to accelerate scientific design and discovery in health, materials science and telecommunications. In 2021 he became the Director of Physical and Quantum Metrology for the Metrology Research Centre where he leads NRC’s contribution to measurement and documentary standards development to enable emerging quantum technologies. He is the interim chair of the Canadian Mirror to IEC/ISO JTC-3 Quantum Technologies and a member of the NMI Quantum Technologies (NMI-Q) steering committee.
